College Admissions for the High School Athlete – A Step-by-Step Guide, 2nd Edition by Jack DiSalvo and Teresea Foy DiGeronimo, New York, 2001, pp 55-56.

“Athletic Placement Services. This business has exploded in popularity over the last 10 years. You can find everything from a free listing of your stats on an Internet site to one year’s personal guidance through the entire college application process for a $2,000 fee. It’s not easy to separate the good and useful from the bad and exploitive, so if you’re thinking about hiring a company to help you navigate your way through the recruiting process, take your time to find a good one …

That’s why reputable services like College Prospects of America are very careful not to make promises and not to take on young athletes who do not meet the academic and athletic requirements of colleges. College Prospects, which has been in business since 1986, does not take money from just anyone with a dream …

College Prospects of America is an example of a respectable and successful agency, but if you’re thinking of using a marketing, recruiting or placement service beware: Not all agencies are as thorough or as personal.”

“CPOA [has] high credibility with colleges …CPOA’s expansion into the international market is far greater than any other recruiting service and this may be their greatest asset.”

Tumaini Malanga

Hi Marva,

You were a God send for me. I happily played hockey for 4 years and I am not back home in Malawi with fond memories of the US.

My first year was tough but, luckily, you supported me though that. Hope all is well.”

Ryan Butler

“Hey Marva,

My name is Ryan Butler and you helped me get a soccer scholarship to the states around 2004. I went to Tusculum College and had a great time!!!

I graduated with a degree in Sports Science/Athletic Training and had a great time on the field too. We won a few tournaments and I was named to the NCAA Div 2 All Region Tournament team in 2005. We also were ranked for a short period of time number 1 in the country!

People always ask about my experience and I always recommend CPOA!!! Hope you are doing well and are very busy!

All the best, Ryan Butler."

Jimi Tele
(Father of Jimi)

"Hello Marva,

Greetings. I wonder if you remember me - I'm Jimi Tele's dad who, through your sterling input, assisted him in obtaining full sports scholarship (track and field) to George Mason University in the United States. He is well settled at college. He had a great 1st year as a freshman and now taking the 2nd year in his stride. For the records, the Teles remain grateful to you for you expert guidance through the application process. We can't thank you enough!

Kind regards

Jimi Tele

Tracy and Steve Humphrey
(Parents of Sam)

“Following a bad experience with another company, we came to you rather late in the day, leaving you with your work cut out to find Sam a place! However, your professionalism and expertise is second to none and, as a result of this, within a month Sam was offered a place at one of his favoured universities (University of Charleston) … what has impressed us with College Prospects is that the support doesn’t finish with the offer of a place. You have always been at the end of the phone to answer any questions and the regular newsletters hold invaluable information.”

J. Vashi
(Parent of Dil)

"Dear Marva,

My name is J. Vashi. I am Zambian now living in Canada. You suggested JSU (Jacksonville State) Alabama for my son Dil 5 years ago, to pursue his post-secondary education, together with golf - his passion. Dil played golf as an undergrad at JSU and since fall 2006, he is the grad assistant for the Golf Dept and doing his MBA, for which he has a partial scholarship. Dil and I would like to express our sincere gratitude for your great advice.”

"To Whom it May Concern

We would like to record our grateful thanks to Marva Hall and her colleagues at CPOA for their fantastic help and guidance in securing our son Rob an academic scholarship to play tennis at Cleveland State University from September 2005.

We did not, at any stage, encounter a hard sell attitude. To the contrary, the needs of the client, i.e. us and our son Rob, were the guiding principle of the agreement from the start. Advice on all aspects of the process were readily given and a huge amount of relevant information was on hand whenever it was required.

Anyone who has had dealings with the USA will understand the amount of paperwork required to enter the country. Although never easy, the process was simplified as much as possible by the information, experience and, general know-how of this team.

We could not have done this without CPOA.”

Roy and Dee Brooklyn
(Parents of Matthew)

"We would like to thank Marva Hall at CPOA(UK) for her invaluable help and expertise in securing a tennis scholarship for our son at a US University (Arizona State).

She guided us through every step of the way and was always available for even the slightest query and never made us feel we were being a nuisance. She treated every question we had with clear and precise answers and advice, often giving us reassurance and guidance in the maze of bureaucracy and paperwork that sometimes seemed overwhelming. We couldn’t have done it without her!

We will definitely be returning to use her services again when our second son reaches university age."

Richard Barnes, Cambridge
(Father of Stanford University All-American tennis player Alice Barnes)

"Dear Marva,

Never a month goes by without my remembering with gratitude the wise and timely advice you gave us about Alice’s GCSE programme. We bought into it enthusiastically and, despite all the obstacles put in our way, your advice and Alice’s hard work have borne fruit.

I know you will have seen that Alice has had a wonderful season; what you cannot know about from the press cuttings and reports is the maturity, confidence, generosity and restoration of self-belief that have become a part of Alice’s life. It would not have happened without the timely intervention from you that evening eight years ago.

I cannot thank you enough.”

Magdy and Judith Abbas, London
(Parents of Omar)

"Dear Marva,

This is a letter to express our thanks and appreciation for the excellent and impeccable service we have received from College Prospects of America.

Equally, we would like to convey our gratitude to you for our continued and tireless assistance. Whenever we needed your help you were always there. You made everything clear from the outset, and with your guidance and advice everything went smoothly. We will have absolutely no hesitation in recommending you in the future.

You will be pleased to know that Omar is enjoying life at Bethel and has fitted in very nicely.”

Stuart and Margaret Smith, Rhondda, Mid-Glamorgan
(Parents of All-American golfer Alex Smith)

"Dear Marva,

We would like to take this opportunity of thanking you for the excellent service and hard work you and your colleague have provided …

Your knowledge and experience was foremost when dealing with the NCAA and it was only with your expertise that we were able to obtain the necessary permissions to enable Alex to be eligible to play in his final year of golf in college.

We are very pleased to recommend you and College Prospects and would speak with anybody who needed a personal confirmation …”

“I would like to commend Marva Hall of College Prospects of America … for her part in getting our son into an American university [Northwestern].

I would strongly recommend any parent to make use of your services in order to give their child the very best chance.”

"Dear Marva,

CPOA has helped all three of our sons win tennis scholarships to American universities: Dave (Texas, Arlington), Tom (Monmouth, NJ) and Ed (Texas). Please give our contact details to anyone who wants a reference.”

Jenny Chambers
(mother of Natalie Pearson)

Marva,

I hope you will remember us. You helped Natalie gain a full scholarship for track and field at the University of North Carolina in Asheville, and she started in the fall of 2006.

She has achieved wonderful success, and we are very proud of her as I think you will be too as she has been such a good representative of your programme. She re-wrote all the school records for indoor 50m, 60m and 200m, and outdoors for 100m and 200m. She won the Conference Championships (Big South) a number of times, including a double victory in her senior year this year for 100/200, and was voted the Big South Athlete of the Year. She also reached the finals of the NCAA Championships twice.

We would like to thank you for all the help your programme gave us, and hope you will be as proud of Natalie as we are!

Thanks again

Andrea Lagerberg
(mother of David)

Hi Marva,

I thought I'd email to let you know how well things are going for David at Boston University. He is thrilled with everything; his coaching, team mates and the mates he has made on his floor etc... This time last year when David started corresponding with coaches it would have been impossible to imagine things working out better for him. He flew back on Sunday to train with the team this week prior to classes starting next week, and sent an email yesterday saying:-

You will be pleased and probably not surprised to know that I am really happy back in Boston.

Thank you for helping to make David's dream to study and train in the States a reality.

Many thanks,

Andrea
